The Real Issues

Click on the three questions below to find out SWIFA's viewpoint

Are fishermen interested in the marine environment?

Very much so.  Fishermen love the environment in which they work and have a vested interest in ensuring long-term sustainability of fish stocks.

The long-term goal of SWIFA, for Lyme Bay and other significant fish-production areas, is to witness the establishment and maintenance of a network of marine ecosystems that are healthy, diverse and productive.

In particular for Lyme Bay, it is essential that the biodiversity of the high reef areas and substrate are maintained, the scalloping and trawling grounds are sustainably harvested, and the economic wellbeing of our fishing communities is secure.

*South West Inshore Scallopers Association (SWISA) was the forerunner to SWIFA.
