Welcome to the South West Inshore Fishermen’s Association website.  We hope you will enjoy your visit and answer at least some of the questions you may have about the South West Coastal waters and the fishing activity that goes on within it.

What’s this website all about?

The inshore waters of the south west of England are blessed with abundant and varied fish stocks which have been fished by generations of local fishing families.

Scallops, in common with all fish and shell fish, are a natural source of healthy food providing vital trace elements and minerals for a healthy diet as well as million of pounds to local coastal economies.

Scalloping in some in shore waters, such as Lyme Bay, have come into the public conscience due to campaigns by wildlife and conservation campaigners to stop fishing activity in these areas.

This website aims to tell you the good news story about sustainable fishing activity in the South West of England and to explain S.W.I.F.A’s balanced and broad view of the future of Scalloping in our inshore waters.
